Guidelines & conditions

Terms of use.

Using Echo

By downloading or using Echo, you agree to use the service responsibly and in line with applicable laws and store policies. If you disagree with these terms, do not use the service. Features may vary by operating system, region, network, device and app version.

What Echo provides

Echo is a local-first tool for nearby discovery, messaging and collaboration, including optional spaces for campuses, events, workplaces and community activities. Features may be experimental, intermittent or unavailable for some platforms. Neither a particular connection radius nor successful message delivery is guaranteed.

Acceptable use

You are responsible for the content you send and your interactions with other people. Do not use Echo to harass, threaten, impersonate, exploit, stalk, transmit malware, violate another person's privacy, infringe intellectual property rights or conduct illegal activity. Do not connect to devices without the other party's permission.

Content and ownership

You retain rights to content you create, subject to third-party rights. You are responsible for securing rights to files you distribute, including photographs, documents, software and copyrighted educational materials. Recipients can retain content after you share it. Do not distribute content you do not have permission to share.

Security, anonymity and privacy

A successful nearby connection does not establish someone's real-world identity. Code matching helps confirm a session but does not independently authenticate a person's name. Alias mode is a profile presentation choice and does not provide complete anonymity from devices or network operators. Review the Privacy Policy.

Emergency and safety features

Echo is not an emergency response service. SOS signals, status check-ins and pinned local instructions are convenience tools only. They may be delayed, blocked or not received. In urgent danger, use local emergency numbers, authorities and established procedures instead of relying on Echo.

Availability and external services

Internet access, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, battery restrictions, local networks, firewall settings and platform services may affect Echo. Google Play, Microsoft Store and external messaging channels are governed by the applicable third-party terms. We may modify or discontinue app features as the product evolves, subject to applicable law.

Warranty and liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without a promise of uninterrupted operation or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections or liability for unlawful conduct.

Updates to the terms

The terms may be revised as the service changes. Updates should be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after notification of an update may have consequences under applicable law and store terms.
